Avins and Southwell Win Again

logoJake Avins and Bryden Southwell have recorded their second round victories of the JSRA Country Super Series by winning Round 3 of the series at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway, supported by Eyerite Signs.

With seventeen Top Star Junior Sedans ready for the night of racing, the racing as we have come to expect from the Junior Sedans was held at a hectic pace. Blake Webb and Jake Avins began the night in the best possible way, by winning their first heat of the night.

Jake Avins then continued in his winning way, recording his second victory for the night, defeating Peter Katona and Blake Fletcher. Jacob Potts would defeat Jayke Malcolm in their second heat race of the night ahead of Blake Webb.

The final heats for the night would go the way of Jorj Park, while Jacob Potts continued his consistent form finishing second ahead of Peter Katona. Jake Avins would record his third win of the night, locking him in for pole position for the feature race to come. Jayke Malcolm finally put together some solid race finishes, finishing second ahead of Alex Fraser.

Jake Avins and Jacob Potts would start the twenty-lap feature race from the front row and would fight hard for the lead for a number of laps with Jorj Park close behind and looking for a way past. Further back in the field, the race was well and truly on in earnest with numerous drivers racing side by side to gain position.

With the lead changing on a variety of occasions between Avins, Potts and Park, Jorj Park would take the lead before the yellow lights would come on for Brooke Watson who stopped in turn 3. At this point, officials deemed that Jorj Park made a pass on the infield and relegated him back two positions.

With twelve laps remaining, the race for the lead would continue, with Blake Webb now moving into the battle. Jackson Derrick started his charge through the field, dicing with Jayke Malcolm, Peter Katona and Alex Fraser. With the laps winding down, Jacob Potts and Jake Avins continued their battle, swapping positions a number of times. Alex Fraser continued to race hard with Jackson Derrick, before he retired from the event.

Broome duo of Blake Webb and Jorj Park fought hard for the minor positions, as the leaders continued to race hard for the lead. As the white flag came out, Jacob Potts closed up behind Jake Avins and started to apply immense pressure as they moved around the track for the final time. This would be too late, as Jake Avins went on to record his second round victory of the 2016/2017 JSRA Country Super Series ahead of Jacob Potts and Blake Webb.

In the New Stars, a small yet quality field of eight cars faced the green flag and put on a great show throughout the night, with close racing in each of the heat races and the final.

Jhy Pack made a fantastic start to the night of racing, defeating Bryden Southwell and Luke Malcolm in the first heat of the night. After winning the night prior at the Perth Motorplex, Luke Malcolm put together a solid set of laps, defeating Bryden Southwell and Jhy Pack in the second heat of the night.

The final heat of the night would go the way of Bryden Southwell, who would defeat Luke Malcolm and Montana Pack to start from pole position in the fifteen lap final to follow.

The final race got underway with an even dispatch between Southwell and Malcolm, but Jhy Pack quickly moved to the inside to take the lead through turns 1 and 2. Bryden Southwell was relegated back to third, before Luke Malcolm would all but spin out in turns 3 and 4, losing a couple of positions.

Bryden Southwell now started to charge after the leader Jhy Pack with Albany local Mitchell Claybrook sitting in third position. Southwell soon made a clean pass on Jhy Pack and took the lead as the field continued to circulate around the Attwell Park track. Jhy Pack started to get busy behind Bryden Southwell, as Luke Malcolm started to close the gap between himself and the leaders, as did Montana Pack.

At the half way point, the race was anyone’s to win, with Jhy Pack and Bryden Southwell racing side by side for the lead, with Luke Malcolm watching on closely behind before making it three wide momentarily. Bianca Kennedy, Hope Batchelor and Brody Day continued to battle for the minor places further behind as the leaders continued to battle it out.

As the laps wound down, Montana Pack started to make her charge through the field and soon looked to line brother Jhy up for a pass. Mitchell Claybrook would then spin his car in turns 3 and 4, which would force a three lap restart.

When the race got back underway, Jhy Pack gave Bryden Southwell a handy lead, as the white flag came out a lap early. Jhy Pack would have once last effort to take the lead, as Luke Malcolm closed up behind Montana Pack, racing hard for the last step on the podium. In sight of the finish line, Luke Malcolm would lose control in front of Montana Pack, allowing Bianca Kennedy to come from the copwebs and steal a third place finish ahead of Montana Pack, Hope Batchelor, Brody Day, Mitchell Claybrook and Luke Malcolm.

The JSRA Country Super Series will return in two weeks at the Quit Bunbury Speedway for Round 4 of the series presented by Hamon Tyre and Exhaust Centre. This will be a great opportunity for the junior teams to test their machinery ahead of the West Australian Junior Sedan Title at the same venue.

A big thank you must go to Eyerite Signs and the Albany Speedway Club and their sponsors for supporting last night’s round of the JSRA Country Super Series.

Webb and Malcolm Win

shannons-fast-racing-series-logoBroome’s Blake Webb and Geraldton’s Luke Malcolm have claimed Round 2 of the JSRA Metropolitan Series for their respective divisions at the Perth Motorplex last night.

A quality field of Junior Sedans were on hand for the Shannons Fast Racing Series event, with eleven Top Stars and five New Stars racing the green flag. As we have come to expect from Junior Sedan racing in WA, drivers raced three and four wide, even five wide at some points, which was an absolute spectacle.

With slippery track conditions to start the night, Jackson Derrick would hold on to record the first victory of the night, as did Bryden Southwell in the New Star division. Kalgoorlie’s Jacob Potts would break an axle while moving through turn two, which in turn sent him into the concrete wall. Luckily his team was able to fix the car ahead of the next heat race.

The second heat of the night, would see the hard and fast racing continue throughout the field of Top Stars and New Stars, with Alex Swift quickly taking the lead. Ashley Baker and Brooke Sutton would try chase him down, but had to hold on for second and third. Bryden Southwell would again prove too strong in the New Star field defeating Tia Wormall and Luke Malcolm.

The third and final heat of the night would be a dramatic one with an incident between Alex Swift, Corey Ameduri and Jayke Malcolm causing a yellow light. When the racing got back underway, Jackson Derrick and Blake Webb would race in close proximity for the lead, while Jacob Potts charged through the field. Luke Malcolm would get the upper hand of Bryden Southwell in the New Stars and record his first Metro series victory in his new car.

With a slightly depleted field, the feature for the night got underway, with Blake Webb, Brooke Sutton, Mitchell Bosveld and Jackson Derrick all fighting for the lead. Jackson Derrick would then make contact with a lapped car and would be sent to the rear of the field. Brooke Sutton would continue her charge after Blake Webb, levelling up with Webb on numerous occasions. Jackson Derrick would continue his charge through the field and would finish a narrow third ahead of Mitchell Bosveld at the end of the race, while Blake Webb would record the victory ahead of Brooke Sutton.

Luke Malcolm and Bryden Southwell would have a close battle to the line in the New Star feature, while Tia Wormall and Jade McKeagg looked for a strong finish. When the checkered flag dropped, Malcolm would deliver his first metro series round victory ahead of Bryden Southwell and Tia Wormall.

Attention will now turn to Round 3 of the JSRA Country Super Series, which heads to Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway tonight, with another top quality field of Top and New Stars set to do battle.

Stay tuned to the JSRA Facebook page and website for all live results from Albany.

JSRA Double Header This Weekend

jsra-logo-transWith the 2016/2017 Junior Speedway Racing Association (JSRA) season in full swing, this weekend will be the biggest of the season so far, with a double header on Friday and Saturday nights.

On Friday, Round 2 of the JSRA Metropolitan Series will fire into action at the Perth Motorplex, as part of the Shannons Fast Racing Series, with a field of 18 Ellement Produce Junior Sedans entered for what should be a sensational night of racing.

Izak Davies headlines the field of Top Stars, after dominating the first round of this series. The ever consistent Jacob Potts will be looking to record his first victory of the season, as will Jackson Derrick, Ashley Baker, Blake Webb and Alex Swift. Jayke Malcolm will make his first visit to the venue for the season and will be hoping for some more luck than he has had so far this season.

In the New Stars, Bryden Southwell will look to continue his domination, however has Tia Wormall, Jade McKeagg, Jae Noonan and Geraldton’s Luke Malcolm also looking to steal the top step of the podium.

13988251_1081826608570498_4826323605500784604_oThe JSRA will then travel to Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway on Saturday night, for Round 3 of the JSRA Country Super Series supported by Eyerite Signs. With two top quality fields entered in both the New and Top Star divisions, it promises to be another great night of Junior Sedan action

Eight New Stars will take to the Great Southern venue, with Bryden Southwell, Luke Malcolm and Montana Pack hoping to again figure prominently. Jhy Pack, Brody Day and local hero’s Hope Batchelor, Bianca Kennedy and Mitchell Claybrook will also look to steal top honours in front of their home crowd.

Eighteen Top Star Junior Sedans will look forward to returning to the Attwell Park venue on Saturday night, with Kalgoorlie’s Jacob Potts hoping to continue his consistent runs this season, as will Blake Webb, Seth Hinsey and Jackson Derrick.

The Fraser family will be in full force this weekend, with brothers Alex and Tyler Fraser making their first starts of the season, while cousin Bronty will look to continue her great start to the season in the Top Stars and will be hoping to end the night as top of the Fraser family.

Jake Avins will return to the series this weekend, with a newly rebuilt car after sustaining major damage in a rollover at Narrogin Speedway just three weeks ago. A huge congratulations must go to the Avins Racing team for such a quick turn around ahead of this weekend’s round of the series.

Be sure to keep an eye on Peter Katona, Rahni Musarra, Blake Fletcher, Chantelle Bate, Daniel Erceg, Jorj Park, Izak Davies who will make his country series debut and home town hero, Brooke Watson, all of whom will be looking for a successful night on the track.

A big thank you to the Watson Family from Eyerite Signs for supporting this round of the JSRA Country Super Series and the Albany Speedway for once again holding a round of the series.

Racing gets underway from 6pm, so be sure to make your way to Albany this weekend or head to Junior Speedway Racing Association – JSRA on Facebook and jsrawa.com for live results and all details on WA Junior Sedan Racing.

Dramatic End in Narrogin

13988251_1081826608570498_4826323605500784604_oRound 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series has ended in dramatic fashion at Makit Hardware Narrogin Speedway last night, with the final events for both New and Top Stars having to be abandoned as the 11pm Junior driver curfew hit.

The night began with some extremely hard and fast racing from both divisions of Junior Sedans, which continued throughout the night. Bryden Southwell, Jhy Pack, Montana Pack and Brody Day fought hard in the New Star field, with Southwell taking the victory in each of the heat races. Narrogin local, Brody Day raced hard with the Pack siblings, while Isabella Freeland made her series debut and completed all races, getting quicker with each race, as did Bryce Fisher.

A field of twenty Top Star Junior Sedans converged on the Upper Great Southern Venue, with Jake Avins and Dylan Parkes making the best possible start to their night, winning their opening heat races in a dominant way. Throughout the fields, the Junior Sedans raced three and even four wide on some occasions, providing some top quality speedway action for the large number of spectators on hand.

Dylan Parkes and Peter Katona would win heats three and four of the night, with Parkes once again beating the field in a dominant fashion, it looked as if he would be the driver to beat throughout the night. Jacob Potts, Blake Webb and Jackson Derrick were having a solid night of racing, finishing towards the front of the field in each of their races.

The final heats of the night saw Kalgoorlie’s Dylan Parkes win his third heat of the night, while Jacob Potts would triumph in the final heat of the night. This wasn’t without its issues, which saw an incident occur on the opening lap resulting in Collie’s Jake Avins rolling numerous times in turn 2. The red lights came on and ambulance personal completed precautionary checks on the infield.

The race was able to be completed, before the ambulance was called to Jake Avins again. With complaints of neck and back pain, Avins was placed in the ambulance and transferred to the Narrogin Hospital for further scans. After a few hours, JSRA officials, drivers and families were glad to hear that no major injury had been sustained and Jake was free to head home. We hope to see Jake back on the track as soon as possible.

As we waited for an ambulance to return, the 11pm curfew for Junior competitors was reached, meaning no more racing was able to take place for the Junior Sedans. As a result, Round 2 of the JSRA Country Super Series was decided on heat race points meaning Bryden Southwell won the New Star Juniors from Montana Pack and Brody Day. Dylan Parkes would take out the Top Star Junior Sedans from Jacob Potts who finished second yet again, showing how consistent he has been in the early part of this season, while Jackson Derrick had a great night to finish third.

The JSRA must thank the Narrogin Speedway Club for their efforts in trying to run the full Junior Sedan program, the Narrogin Volunteer St John Ambulance Personal and everyone who made this event possible.

Attention will now turn to Round 2 of the JSRA Metropolitan Junior Sedan Series at Perth Motorplex on Friday November 25th, the beginning of a huge weekend of Junior Sedan action, with Round 3 of the JSRA Country Super Series the following night at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway on Saturday November 26th.
